Nepalese peace process in crossroad

Kathmandu, Nepal –
Twenty eight political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly (CA) doubled legislative parliament failed to form a consensus government by Wednesday, the last extended deadline to form consensus government. With the failing to form a consensus government President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav urged the parliament to form a majority based government through the elections in the parliament. Even though the ongoing peace process in Nepal is on the verge of collapse, political parties in Nepal mainly the big three- UCPN Maoist, Nepali Congress and CPN UML, failed to forge a consensus to a new government has largely disappointed the Nepalese people.
Despite the looming fears, there is till rays of hopes that political parties in Nepal would become success to avert the approaching crisis as they have still been parroting the need for consensus, timely constitution and no alternative than to reach the ongoing peace process into logical conclusion.
Last minute agreement between the government and the Maoists not only replaced the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) by a national mechanism but also swept away the rumors that ongoing peace process would be jeopardized in the absence of the UN body. Following the three-point agreement, the mechanism has successfully been discharging the responsibility of monitoring the arm and armies and Maoist's former combatants have also come under the mechanism paving the way for integration and rehabilitation.

However, there are outstanding issues to be resolved regarding ongoing political bickering. Political parties have repeatedly been raising the suspicion over the Maoist's attitude towards the democracy and human right.

If the Maoists really uphold the spirit of the multi-party democracy and human rights with disbanding their paramilitary Young Communist League (YCL), returning property confiscated during the decade long insurgency and managing their former fighters, there would not be so difficult to form a new government under the Maoist's leadership.

Nepali Congress, CPN UML and other democratic alliance have already cleared to this effect. And, international community also can not create any form of interfere to form a Maoist-led government only if they corrects themselves and win the heart of others with deeds but not in the form of verbal commitments.
